Until its status with the
Chechen Ministry of Culture, the annual international tour was Daimohk's sole source of income,
and this has been crucial for the upkeep of the
company. While the tours themselves constitute a significant expense, Daimohk also requires funds to pay instructors and musicians in Grozny and
to repair and replace costumes. In addition, CPCD is assisting Daimohk in
an ambitious project to reconstruct its dance rehearsal hall.
Construction of dance hall in Grozny
Since
the loss of their rehearsal hall to a bomb in 1999, Daimohk have been
practising in a school hall in the local area. The strong demands of the
rehearsal programme, however, impacts quite considerably on the activities
and timetables of the school itself, and it is unlikely that this
arrangement will be able to continue into the new year. CPCD is partnering
Daimohk in the construction of a new dance hall, which would not only
allow the group to rehearse in conditions that are specifically adapted
for dance, but also to allow the company to grow by providing a permanent
and stable centre for dance for the youth of Grozny.
CPCD welcomes any donations
from organisations or individuals to assist with Daimohk's development.
Cheques with donations should be made payable to "Daimohk":
